Family Medicine Specialty
Family Medicine is centered on providing lasting, caring relationships with patients and their families. Family Physicians specialize in caring for the physical and emotional well-being of their patients and their families. They are trained to care for family members through all stages of life. Family Physicians really know their patients, understand the impact of their health history and situation, and take the time to listen and help.
Family Physicians are specialists, just like obstetricians, pediatricians or surgeons. Unlike those doctors, however, Family Physicians are trained to treat the entire family. They possess unique attitudes, skills and knowledge to provide continuous, comprehensive health care for any patient, regardless of sex, age or type of problem. They receive three years additional post-graduate training in real practice settings, treating patients in the office, the hospital and at home. Family Physicians know the most up-to-date treatments and technologies. They re-certify more than any other medical specialty. Their Continuing Medical Education means that Family Physicians are experts at applying the latest medical breakthroughs to the everyday care of their patients. All our physicians are Board Certified specialists in Family Medicine.

Organization and History
Georgetown Medical Clinic, a Professional Association, is a private medical group practice of Family Physicians uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of illnesses. Our physicians practice in a group to combine their skills into a single professional unit to provide high quality medical care. Our physicians promote collaboration and cooperation, supporting each other to make continuous, convenient care available to all our patients. We also make sure that specialized medical skills, x-ray, laboratory, and other important clinical services are readily available to you and your family. Georgetown Medical Clinic continues its tradition of providing the best in technical and scientific expertise to address patient problems, and treating patients with personal attention and compassion.

In 1947 Dr. Hal Gaddy opened his practice in Georgetown. In 1958 Dr. Douglas Benold joined the practice, followed by Dr. James Shepherd, Dr. John Webb and Dr. Richard Pearce. These physicians originally maintained offices in the old hospital building in central Georgetown. The practice continued to expand its service area throughout Williamson County and Central Texas and later moved to its present 18,000 square foot facility on Scenic Drive. In planning for the future of the practice, the physicians have agreed that every physician maintain Board Certification as a Specialist in Family Medicine. The group practice is currently composed of eight family physicians, certified physician assistants, and over 40 nurses and medical support staff.
